Lobby at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral HomeThe Cook-Walden legacy of service began in the Greater Austin area in the late 1800s. Samuel E. Rosengren opened a downtown funeral home in the 400 block of Congress Street, serving the needs of the growing state capital until 1920.

Charles B. Cook purchased Rosengren’s business and opened an opulent 3-story building located between the capitol and governor’s mansion. The business quickly became one of the largest and most prestigious providers of funeral and ambulance services in Austin. For more than 50 years Cook continued the tradition of providing the finest in care and service in Austin.

Charles Walden purchased Cook Funeral Home in 1971, bringing 30 years of dedication and service to the business. Walden soon moved the Cook-Walden Funeral Home from 11th and Colorado Avenues to North Lamar Street, where it continues to serve as an Austin landmark.

"Miss Amie Hernandez took care of myself and my family. She was very professional, upfront, honest, and took her time in everything she went over with us. She made the whole experience so much easier and considering the circumstances pleasurable. In my and my family's opinion, Miss Hernandez more than went out of her way to make sure my family and I were taken care from start to finish in every way. The whole process went smoothly and perfectly. Miss Hernandez is very good at what she does and is a great asset to Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home. We had spoken at times to Briana Ballenger, and although the interactions were brief, she too was very helpful and professional. The gentlemen that greeted us at the door were also very pleasant, courteous, and guided all visitors to the viewing. Thank you all for making this situation so much easier."
