History

Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home began in 1928 as Miller-Reynolds Funeral Home in the downtown area of Bremerton. Woodlawn Memorial Park was originally developed in the spring of 1940. Construction of the existing funeral home began in the late 60s while the “Chapel on the Hill” was dedicated on November 10, 1968.

In 1970, Mr. and Mrs. Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Berg announced the merger of the Miller and Woodlawn funeral homes, which created Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home and Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

In 1972, the Bergs constructed the Rhododendron Mausoleum, which is where the founders Mr. and Mrs. Burg are resting today. In the early 70s, Miller-Woodlawn received the mast and yard arm of a decommissioned 50s-era heavy cruiser: the USS Bremerton.

Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home and Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park have been part of the Dignity Memorial® network since 1988. Today, the funeral home and cemetery teams continue to care for families with a professional and compassionate approach that's been here since the very beginning.

"I was lucky. I had prepaid many of the expenses before my husband passes. I was impressed that they had everything ready before I met with the directors. I felt at peace with the final price tag. I know how to prepare for my final rest so my children don't have to pay for me."

"My Dad had prepaid for his funeral with Miller-Woodlawn. That was wonderful because it took the decisions, stress, and finances off of me during a really difficult time. He had also had a policy that covered if he passed away out of Washington state. My Dad passed away on vacation in Iowa and Miller-Woodlawn coordinated everything with a funeral home in Iowa, including flying my Dad back and getting him to Bremerton. The staff kept me informed and has been great to work with. I felt comfortable with how they were caring for my Dad. Miller-Woodlawn has been a bright spot during the loss of my father. Thank you."
