A Queens landmark
The funeral home building at 71-41 Cooper Avenue in Glendale is among the oldest structures in Queens. The one-of-a-kind, red brick and white wood home sits on an acre of land with mature trees and a circular driveway. The building has undergone several big renovations and upgrades over the years, yet every effort was made to preserve its original grandeur and history—including an underground well that provides water for the lawn sprinklers and air conditioning system. The funeral home includes a nondenominational chapel that seats about 65.
At Walsh-La Bella & Son, we pride ourselves on events that truly celebrate your loved one. Whether you are seeking a basic , a full service with a cemetery burial and a catered reception, or a creative outdoor celebration complete with a live band, favorite foods, and funeral favors, we take care of every detail. We are here to help you and your family like no other.
First, we help you find inspiration. Maybe it’s in a song or a hobby. It could be a trademark style or a lifelong passion. We turn that inspiration into a service filled with thoughtful and meaningful details. From a butterfly release to a barbecue, a motorcycle procession to a musical tribute, the list of what we can help you do is nearly endless. Start with a story. We’ll take it from there.
James La Bella opened Walsh-La Bella & Son on 87th Street in Woodhaven in June 1959. His son, Peter, began working in the business in in 1979. Peter became a licensed funeral director at 20 years old.
In 1986, Walsh-La Bella & Son expanded to a second funeral home. Peter served families at both the Cooper Avenue location in Glendale and the Woodhaven location until the latter closed in 2015. Peter and his team continued to serve the Woodhaven, Glendale and Ridgewood communities from 70-17 Cooper Avenue until 2018.
Walsh-La Bella & Son joined the Dignity Memorial® network in December 2018, allowing us to give you not only the warm, familiar attention you expect from a locally operated business but also the value you deserve by way of the largest network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers in North America. Peter continues to serve at the funeral home, upholding a long tradition of personal attention to every family who comes through the door.
Always here for you
Peter built the reputation of the funeral home on a commitment to 24-hour, seven-days-a-week service. That dedication to friends and neighbors has never wavered, and Walsh-La Bella & Son is available for you day and night.
