History

Martin’s Mortuary and on-site crematory is located in Grand Junction, Colorado. Established by F.C. Martin and his wife in 1917, our funeral home's original location was at 648 Main Street. Two years later the building at 623 Colorado Avenue was purchased and occupied for the next 21 years. Then in 1940, our current funeral home was constructed at 550 North Avenue.

Our traditions

Martin’s Mortuary was operated by the Martin family for 3 generations. Founders F.C. Martin and his wife were followed in 1937 by Edward Martin and his wife. In 1952, Paul E. Martin and his wife joined the firm, which remained in the Martin family until 1982, at which time R.A. "Bob" Crist and his son, Martin, became the owners.

Community involvement

We are a member of the Colorado Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA). Edward Martin served as both vice-president and president of NFDA, was the president of CFD and held various other offices as well.

Additionally, we have been members of National Selected Morticians and National Association of Approved Morticians. Membership in these organizations is by invitation only. Members are required to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and business qualifications.
