Contact us

Life is precious. When a life does end, saying goodbye is difficult. It is our mission at Beach Memorial Chapel to assist families through this most difficult period by providing quality services in a meaningful way. Please contact us if you would like more information about our services.

In the mid-1930s, the St. Pete Beach area, which was also known as Long Key, was just being discovered as a winter resort locale. L.W. Baynard Sr. realized that the developing area was missing something it desperately needed—a modern memorial chapel with its own crematory.

Choosing St. Petersburg as his setting, Baynard opened Baynard's Beach Memorial Chapel and operated it in conjunction with Baynard Funeral Home in downtown St. Petersburg in 1936. By the following year, the Baynard Beach location's crematory was completed, and for many years operated as the only crematory in the St. Petersburg and Tampa Bay area.

Meeting the needs of our community

Service room at Beach Memorial ChapelOur original Beach Memorial Chapel building consisted of a large lobby that doubled as the chapel office, a receiving area and an apartment for an attendant. In 1949, Baynard partnered with Paul E. Thompson, and the 2 men converted the chapel into a facility featuring a full-service funeral home, crematory and ambulance service.

The renovated facility, which was renamed Baynard-Thompson Beach Memorial Chapel, also included a casket display room, embalming facilities and garage apartment. Following an acquisition in 1983, the name was changed to Beach Memorial Chapel.

"Our family lives on the West Coast. We were not able to travel to FL make arrangements. The receptionist, Randi, others helped so much I can't thank them enough. Several times I was too emotional to speak- each person patiently waited. They allowed electronic signing, we designated a person as fam and our sister. Closed services were held by her friends at a local park. The web page offered for obituaries allowed her friends around the US to read about my sister and her accomplishments. During pandemic times, with thousands passing, the group at Beach Memorial put us first even though they were experiencing the loss of their own family members and friends. If anything, the funeral home needs to provide counseling to their staff. Making arrangements for cremation, certificates, ashes, etc via computers and phones initially sounded so cold. The warmth and understanding from Randi and staff couldn't have been more professional."
