The Settegast-Kopf Company was founded by Ed Settegast and John Kopf in 1901 with a vision to provide the highest standard of funeral service to Houston-area families. Today, nearly 120 years later, The Settegast-Kopf Company@Sugar Creek continues to uphold the tradition of excellence started by our founders.

And though our commitment to exceptional care has never changed, our funeral home always responds to the evolving needs of the community.

A modern funeral home

Recently updated and well-appointed, our classic brick funeral home, located off the Southwest Freeway, is a welcoming place to plan a memorial service. It includes a big, bright chapel that has both a baby grand piano and the only Houston-area pipe organ found in a funeral home. Visitation rooms are comfortable, and an event space seats up to 60 guests for a gathering before or after a funeral. We use one of the best chefs in the Houston market for all of our catered events, from a breakfast buffet to an ice cream social to a sit-down dinner.

Personalized memorial and cremation services

Our mission at Settegast-Kopf Company@Sugar Creek is to help families create personalized memorials. This approach keeps us open to traditional religious rites as well as contemporary gatherings, and our certified celebrants are experts in the funeral customs of many religions and cultures. That means that whether you want a basic cremation with ashes scattered in a personally meaningful place, a funeral in our chapel with cemetery burial nearby, or a modern celebration of life with a choir or band, favorite foods and a send-off that expresses the passions of your loved one, we will deliver just that. From garden party to golf-themed event, bagpipes to banjos, cupcakes to crab cakes, we make sure that your wishes or the wishes of your loved one are fulfilled.

Cremation services

Not everyone knows that there are many cremation options. If you are interested in cremation, the funeral home team can explain the process and the different memorial and burial choices. From a direct cremation without a service or a witness to a full funeral service before or after the cremation and more, we help you understand this increasingly common decision.

Past meets present

As a member of the Dignity Memorial® network, The Settegast-Kopf Company@Sugar Creek gives you both the warm, familiar attention you expect from a locally-operated funeral home and the benefits you deserve by way of North America's largest network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.

In the mid-1800s Ed Settegast operated one of the finest livery companies in Houston. John Kopf was a cabinetmaker. In 1901 Ed and John combined their businesses, establishing the first funeral home in Houston.

By 1927 Emma Settegast was operating the funeral home, with the help of John Morrow and her brother, Ed. The business remained in the family until John Morrow bought it in 1963. John ran the business until 1970.

In 1993 The Settegast-Kopf Company expanded to Sugar Land, where we still operate today as The Settegast-Kopf Company@Sugar Creek.

"The kindness, care and empathy we received from Cassie Vargas meant a great deal to my husband and myself. She was very genuine and did exactly what we had hoped for in this situation. We didn't actually have contact with other staff since this was during the lockdown time, but everything went smoothly for us and her attention to detail and her care for us was very much appreciated. This business was recommended to us by a neighbor. I will definitely recommend both the facility and our funeral director, Cassie Vargas. This was an incredibly difficult time for our family and we appreciate the ease with which these arrangements were made. In times a great sorrow, kindness and gentle guidance are invaluable."
