About

When faced with the stress and complexity of arranging a memorial or funeral, thousands of Southeastern Massachusetts families rely on the compassion, strength and professional guidance of the kind people at Waring Sullivan Cherry Place Funeral and Cremation Service in Fall River. With a long history and an experienced, dedicated staff, we are right here, ready to help when you need us.

A compassionate and comfortable funeral home

Covered Portico at Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Cherry PlaceWe want you to feel at home in our home. Our bright yellow Colonial-style funeral home, with a pair of porticos, blends in with the residential neighborhood. A large skylight in the foyer of the funeral home lets in plenty of daylight, and our fireplace invites you to sit for a bit in the winter. Pink and blue tones lend a little cheer to the space. There's plenty of parking, and the funeral home is handicapped accessible.

Though our facility is beautiful, it's our impeccable service for which we are known. Fall River is a diverse area and our staff is well versed and proud to serve all faiths and nationalities.

Plenty of room for your friends and family

Chapel at Waring Sullivan Cherry Place Funeral and Cremation ServiceOur Fall River funeral home frequently performs large services. The main chapel seats 125 people in a living room-style setup with big tables and sofas. It's easy to personalize the space with photos and mementos of your loved one; a big TV can show a multimedia memorial tribute. There's also a keyboard for live music. For smaller services, a second chapel accommodates 75. For gatherings of a couple hundred we combine the chapels.

If you'd like to host a catered gathering before or after a service, we work with several 3rd-party caterers who will let you customize their menus. From a breakfast buffet to a cake-and-coffee break to a seafood dinner, just let us know what you'd like. And if what you'd like is grandma's blueberry pie or your favorite uncle's chowder, we'll take a treasured family recipe and make it the centerpiece of the meal.

Fall River community involvement

Waring Sullivan Cherry Place Funeral and Cremation Service makes it a priority to give back to the community. Each month, the funeral home donates to multiple Fall River charities. Throughout the year, we host a variety of events on and off the funeral home grounds, including trips to Foxwoods Resort & Casino. Every June, we host over 100 city employees at our Annual Appreciation Cookout.

We also host an annual grief management seminar which is open to the public, drawing hundreds of people every year. Featured speakers have included Thomas Lynch, Dr. Alan Wolfelt, Sherri L. Williams, Sally Spencer-Thomas and Dr. Kenneth J. Doka.

Because our care for your family does not end after the funeral is over, we host a grief management seminar at a restaurant in Swansea once per year. It is open to the public and draws hundreds of people. We also offer continuing education classes for local care professionals featuring speakers such as Thomas Lynch and David Kessler.

History

Waring-Sullivan has a long history in Massachusetts. In the 1860s, Henry Waring opened a furniture store that also sold caskets. In 1871, Henry converted the business to a funeral home. In 1883, Henry's son, James H. Waring, joined in his father's business. Today, the 5th generation of the Waring family carries on a tradition of some of the finest funeral and cremation services available.
