We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of our mother Sigrun Zibara, on March 18, 2020.

Sigrun was born October 1, 1940 in Konigsberg, Germany. In her early 20’s she met her first husband, Mel St-Pierre, who was stationed in Germany with the Canadian Armed Forces, and they had 2 sons Michael and Marc. In the early 1960’s they emigrated to Canada first to Summerside, PEI before settling in Nova Scotia.

For over 30 years, Sigrun was well known by many customers for her knowledge and assistance with skin care and cosmetics as they followed her from Second Look to Eatons and finally Mills Brothers where she worked for many years.

She loved beauty in her personal surroundings especially flowers and was a creative arranger and who had a strong flare for personal style and fashion. The Arts, particularly Jazz and Classical music, held a special place in her heart.(So did cats, raspberries, Heinkel and Pinot Grigio). She was known for her dry sense of humour, quick wit and honest answers.

Mom was an awesome cook with a special knack for whipping up a great meal in a matter of minutes!

She had a deep love for her granddaughters, Danielle and Lauren, and her sons, always wanting the best for them despite at times the “clashing” of strong opinions, which made her unique and wonderful. In the end the love we have for one another is all that matters.

Sigrun is survived by her sons Michael and Marc, granddaughters Danielle and Lauren, sister Inga Kratz, lifelong friends Heidi Kinzel, Marilyn Pellerin and Janet Stern. Sigrun was predeceased by her mother Sissi Kratz (Baltrusch), father Herr Paulekuhn, brother Wolfgang Paulekuhn, second husband Michel Zibara and longtime companion Abe Leventhal.

Special thanks to the caring staff at Drummond Hall for your care of Mom which will always be remembered. Stay safe!

Arrangements are entrusted with J. A. Snow Funeral Home with service to be held at a later date once life starts to get back on track towards normal (Service date notification will be posted in the Chronicle Herald and JA Snow Funeral Home website). For those who wish, donations in her memory can be made to the NS Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Sigrun was a beautiful and unique, one of a kind, intelligent, kind, straightforward, bright light, with impeccable style. She was a very valued, popular and sought after associate in our cosmetic department at Mills Brothers, for many many years. I was saddened to hear of her passing. She had such a full life with so much love around her, and at peace now. We were all so fortunate to have known her. Sending love and respect to you all. Heather MacLellan

Dear Marc and Michael,
My deepest condolences for this great loss.
Sigrun was an influencer. She walked with beauty, grace, and a fantastic presence. She demonstrated an enviable wry wit and impeccable taste. Sigrun was a head turner while walking through Mills Brothers , or while at her desk in the cosmetic department or doing errands on Spring Garden Road. Her love of great art whether in jewellry, fabric or music inspired me. I will cherish my conversations and memories of the beautiful women that was Sigrun.

I first met Sigrun while she worked at Mills . My Mom , me and my daughter were her clients. Years later , while my Mom was a resident at Drummond Hall we met again . We had many chats , I think she liked visits from my dogs . ... it was always a pleasure to spend time chatting . I am so sorry she left too soon ...

Its so very hard to write yet another condolence to you Mike & Mark, losing both parents in such a short period of time is incomprehensible and with such trying times as well. I never did get to meet your mom but I can tell the impression she has left behind is extraordinary and its not hard to tell where your children get some of that from. Wishing you some sort of comfort at this time.

Sincerely Donah B. Xx

I’m just so sorry to hear of Sigrun’s passing. She was one of my favourite people in the world and I thought if her often over the years. I worked with Sigrun at Mills Brothers when I was at university and she was like a second mother to me. I still have and wear a necklace that she made. I admired it one day and she took it off her neck and gave it to me. That was so very her. She was the most gorgeous, glamorous women I ever met. I admired her sense of style and how she made everything beautiful. And she talked me straight on more than one occasion. How may times she chastised me for my suntanning ways! She was an incredible woman and I can only imagine the hole she’s left in your lives. I’m so very sorry for your loss. Xx

I met Sigrun when she waw at 2nd Look, I admired a necklace & ring
she was wearing, she offered to find me something similar and ordered from Germany. I still have it and it is still unique like your Mom. I lost track of her for a while, but then found her again at Mills'. The picture you chose, shows her classic look . Sorry for your loss

Dearest Marc,
Your Mother was a very special lady and a dear friend and I have such amazing memories!! I cherish the visits with your Grandmother . She and Sigrun always requested some Bach when they would visit. As you might remember, we also shared a Birthday, which was an instant connection. My deepest sympathy to you and Michael.

Love, Angela
