January 20, 1952May 8, 2018

Wayne J. Kirtland, 66, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018 surrounded and survived by his soulmate, Dana DeVito, his cherished brother, Lance Kirtland and his beloved companion, Atlas.

Wayne was a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic. Upon graduating, he opened his first and only practice in Manahawkin, NJ and served the community for 40 years. He never felt like he worked a day in his life, since being a Chiropractor was something he was truly passionate about. He cared about each and every one of his patients.

Wayne enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, and working in his garden but driving his John Deere really gave him happiness. He was a member of the Garden State Chiropractic Society.

His favorite time of year was Autumn and his displays were immeasurable. He was a generous, compassionate and caring man and he was always full of surprises. All who had the pleasure of knowing and loving him will miss him.

Wayne is also survived by his sons; Wayne, Eric, Ryan and Jay.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to, an organization that helped and supported Wayne on his journey.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Wayne at the Manahawkin United Methodist Church, 116 Stafford Ave, Manahawkin on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 5:30 pm.

Dana, we saw each other in the office many times. But you have no reason to know me. I knew Wayne for 33 years. We had Dr. Mary and home births in common. He was my hero many times when I was in pain. I called a number of times always asking if I could help and volunteered to even scrub the bathroom floor. I was so saddened to hear of Wayne 's passing. I feel awful that I only found out today and missed the service to tell you in person how much Wayne helped my daughter and I. Just something that brings a smile me when I think of Wayne. It's amazing that he knew everyone by name and remembered so much about not only the patient but their family and their lives too. Ok, phenomenal enough. But he knew who every person was as they pulled into the lot just by looking at their car. I'd kid him I didn't know a Rolls Royce from a Volkswagen Beetle. In so many ways he will be missed. My prayers to you and all those who loved him.

Wayne was a very good Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine, he helped both of us over the past years.
One of our memories would be sharing of both of our love and knowledge of gardening.
When-ever we were there he couldn't wait to share what new information he had or ask how or when the proper time to plant, etc...
Wayne was more than our doctor we are proud to say he was our friend and will be truly missed.

Dr Wayne Kirtland will be sadly missed. He was the best Chiropractor as far as I am concerned. I had a very bad back injury and he put me back in place so I was able to function. He was so caring and also had a good comical personality. I know he is in a much better place, but will be missed tremendously. Dana and family you are deeply in my heart love you .

Dr. Wayne was more than a chiropractor; he was a true healer: Body, Mind, and Soul.
He was a doctor who truly listened and responded with compassion and wisdom. Every
time I left his office, I had a feeling of well being.
Dana, Lance, and Alas: on May 8th, God may have taken Dr, Wayne's kind soul to heaven; but what he left you with is your own special angel. Dana, I hope that Alas brings you much love and comfort.
Extendinding much heartfelt sympathy to all he loved.

My dear friend you have physically left us but you will always be in our hearts and thoughts. Wayne was my friend and Chiropractor for over 25 years, every time I went to the office we would update each other with the current events in our lives. He will be missed and there will be a void, but his legacy of love and compassion for people will always be remembered.

2 Timothy 4:6-8
For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day--and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Dr. Wayne was a special person. He was more than just our chiropractor; we considered him to be a friend. We started seeing Wayne over 10 years ago when I was pregnant with my daughter. I had sciatica and needed to see him about two to three times a week until I finally gave birth. He was so good with my two boys, because, of course I had to bring them along since they were only one and three years old. He was always positive, upbeat and had great stories to share. We saw him regularly since then. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Wayne was blessed. To his family and loved ones - I am truly sorry for your loss.

I had the pleasure of meeting Wayne at the Hope for Cancer Clinic where we both were undergoing treatment. We hit it off right away. He had such an uplifting spirit and we kept in touch until his passing. He left an imprint on my life and I know he is in heaven now. My prayers are with Dana and Wayne's family.

We haven't gone to Wayne's practice in a quite a few years but he left quite an impression on me and my husband. His way of practicing his care was very different from what we were used to. He was gentle, patient and explained how he worked differently from other chiropractors. We always left feeling better in my body and mind. My husband and I will miss him and his enjoyable conversations. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends.
