She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Mitsuo Kamimoto, and her three siblings, Hatsumi, Shigeshi, and Yasu.
Sakaye attended Arroyo Grande High School until her family was forced to move to the internment camps in 1942. Her school mailed her diploma to her. Several years later, she was allowed to leave, and moved to Chicago to work. There, she met, dated, and married her husband, Michael.
After the war, they returned to California, eventually settling down in Granada Hills. There, Sakaye stayed active with work and her many hobbies. Even into her 90s, Kay could be found tending to her flowers and fruit trees, or baking a small treat for a special occasion.
Sakaye leaves behind her children, Michael and Laurie, granddaughter, Alexandra, and devoted canine companion, Tami.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 4th, at 3:00PM at the San Fernando Valley Hongwanji Buddhist Temple for immediate family only.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Japanese American National Museum (www.janm.org/donation) in the memory of Sakaye Kamimoto.
