Canuto R. Garcia

Canuto was born in Tilden, Texas, on Jaunary 8, 1935 to Ysadoro Garcia and Andrea Rodriguez Garcia. He spent part of his childhood in Texas before making Santa Paula his home, where he lived for many years and became part of the community he loved.

Throughout his life, Canuto was a hardworking man. Growing up, he worked cooking and in the fields, and later spent many years working in the packing house. He was a quiet and private man who enjoyed the simple things in life. As a Catholic, his faith was an important part of his life.

One of Canuto's favorite pastimes was taking his walks up “Hospital Hill” in Santa Paula, where he enjoyed meeting new people along the way. He also enjoyed sitting in the lobby where he lived, watching the people across the street at the park. A great sports fan, he especially loved watching baseball, proudly cheering for the Los Angeles Dodgers, as well as football.

Canuto especially enjoyed the holidays. He looked forward to Thanksgiving turkey and Christmas tamales, and he had a particular fondness for sweets. Cake and candy were among his favorite treats.

Canuto will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Debra Garcia; his son-in-law and best friend, Armando Carlos; his daughter, Desiree Chaffin; his brother, Isadoro Garcia; granddaughter, Anita Escamilla; grandsons, Jaime Escamilla and Manlio Escamilla; as well as many other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Elda Marie Garcia; two sisters; and two brothers.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Santa Paula Hospital and Ventura County Medical Center for the care and compassion they provided to Canuto. A special thank you is also extended to Ronnie Lopez “Caballo” for being a good friend to Canuto.
