Sheila was an enrolled member and respected elder of the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe. Born in Needles, California on November 27th, 1950 to June 25th 2026 . She proudly called the California Village home for more than 50 years and devoted her life to serving her tribe and Native communities throughout Arizona, California, and Nevada.
She was the beloved wife of Norvin G. McCord, Sr for more than 50 years. She was a loving mother to Mackenzie McCord and Gilbert Valero and was preceded in death by her sons, Llewellyn McCord and Norvin McCord Jr. Sheila was a devoted grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend whose love for her family knew no bounds.
Judge McCord was the first appointed judge for the Fort Mojave Indian Tribe and went on to serve as a judge for sixteen additional tribal nations. She made history as the First Woman President of the Southwest Indian Court Judges Association and also served as Secretary of the National Indian Court Judges Association. Throughout her distinguished career, she was known for her wisdom, fairness, and unwavering commitment to justice.
Her dedication extended beyond the courtroom. Sheila served on the ACE Board for Avi Resort & Casino, the Fort Mojave Police Commission, and the Fort Mojave Enrollment Committee. She also helped establish Mojave Days, a celebration that continues to honor the culture and traditions of the Fort Mojave people.
Sheila believed that the greatest measure of a person's life was not wealth, but love. She often said, "The wealth of a large family and friends cannot be assessed by money but by respect and knowledge of the love for each other." Those words reflected the way she lived every day.
Judge Sheila G. McCord leaves behind a lasting legacy of leadership, compassion, and service. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Funeral services will be announced by the family.
