Francis J. Hailey MD

Francis J. Hailey, M.D. of Norwich and Plymouth Reservoir passed away on September 17, 2019. The loving husband of Kathleen Guy Hailey; father of Pamela (Daniel) Arterburn, Dr. Charles J. (Dr. Patricia) Hailey, Patrick M. (Hounada) Hailey, Timothy B. (Beth) Hailey and Mary Kathleen (Michael) Hailey and grandfather of 6 grandchildren. Francis was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy B. Hailey, his daughter Carolyn F. Hailey and his parents Mr. and Mrs. James J. Hailey of Niagara Falls. Francis’ birthplace was Niagara Falls and he was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and the recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Science Award in his senior year. Francis served in the United States Army as a Captain in WWII in the South Pacific in 1943 with an Honorable Discharge after graduating from Niagara University Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Hailey graduated from Georgetown Medical School in 1950. He reenlisted in the Air Force and served in North Africa from 1952-1953 leaving in 1953 to work in private practice in Tonowanda until 1961. At that time he joined Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals in his speciality of Urology from 1969-1972. He was employed there for 26 years retiring as Medical Director from Procter and Gamble on July 31, 1987. He was the author and co-author of twelve Urology publications. On May 25, 1985 Francis and Kathleen Ann Guy were married in St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. Dr. Hailey was a communicant of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Dr. Hailey served as one of Norwich, NY Parks Commissioner after his retirement until January 4, 2011. Dr. Hailey was an honorary member of the Chenango County Medical Society and a member of the American Urological Association-Northeast Section. He was also a member of the Chenango Chapter of the New York State Archeology Association and the Norwich Rotary Club. He was also a member of the Norwich VFW Post 2782 and the Norwich American Legion Post 189. Dr. Hailey also enjoyed archeology on Wednesday afternoons with the late Dr. Richard Hosbach’s group. With his wife Kathleen, John Conklin and Jane Conklin Derensis he accomplished hiking the Fingerlakes Trail and branch trails finishing in 1999. A Memorial Mass for Dr. Hailey will be held on Saturday, October 19, at 10 AM from St.Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
